The Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) monitors, documents and responds to violations of press and media freedom across Europe. Coordinated by a consortium led by the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), the MFRR provides emergency support, legal assistance, advocacy and practical help to journalists and media workers facing threats, attacks or legal harassment.

The MFRR supports journalists, media workers, bloggers, publishers and advocates of media freedom who face risks linked to their professional activities. Applications are accepted from individuals, unregistered groups, registered organisations and alliances.
Geographical focus:
EU member states and EU candidate countries: Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.
What support is available #
Financial support may include:
- Legal fees and court costs, including criminal, civil and non-judicial representation
- Appeal costs and trial monitoring
- Emergency medical treatment and psychosocial care
- Relocation, rest and respite
- Secure transportation or evacuation
- Security upgrades and safe premises
- Recruitment of technical or legal experts
- Wellbeing support
Non-financial support may include:
- Advocacy at national and international levels
- Legal research, expert testimony and amicus briefs
- Digital and physical safety support, including equipment and software
- Psychosocial support
