Through the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and ProtectDefenders.eu, the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) provides emergency material assistance for human rights defenders facing imminent threats anywhere in the world. Support is available for defenders working in hostile environments who need rapid help to protect their physical safety, psychological wellbeing or ability to continue their human rights work.
Who they support #
OMCT supports a wide range of at-risk human rights defenders and groups, including individuals, informal networks, unregistered groups, registered organisations and alliances. Eligible actors include youth activists, environmental and climate defenders, SRHR advocates, journalists and media workers, Indigenous and land rights defenders, LGBTQI+ activists, disability rights defenders, migrant and refugee rights defenders, women human rights defenders, artivists, writers and bloggers, and persecuted or imprisoned activists.
Support is available when the threat is directly connected to their human rights work.
